This year's digital-camera makers have introduced some fascinating features. Nikon has GPS reception in its P6000 camera, so it can record exactly where photos are taken. Nokia has packaged a seriously good five-megapixel camera into its 6220 mobile phone (also with GPS reception). Fujifilm's FinePix Z20fd has an "auction" mode designed to make it easier to take photos of your stuff to sell it on eBay.

The Pentax Optio A40 is the latest result of Pentax's tradition of producing simple, usable, ultracompact cameras that have high-quality optics. Retailing for about $250 (as of September 1, 2008), this 12-megapixel black-and-silver model has a serious look. At 2.5 inches diagonally, the camera's screen is smaller than the screens on some competing models, though it works just fine indoors and out.

Fujifilm announces a radical departure from current imaging systems with the development of a completely new, real image system (3D digital camera, 3D digital photo frame, 3D print) that marks a complete break from previous attempts to introduce this technology. The arrival of digital photography over a decade ago opened up so many new ways of enjoying images.

I'm usually the kind of person who takes the memory card out of the digital camera to transfer pictures, but I know a lot of people prefer the convenience of plugging their cameras directly into their computers. Both of these require more work than what they're worth. While wireless USB is not exactly new technology anymore, very few people actually make use of it.

Soon after Howard Hughes finished making his world war one silent epic WINGS, he walked into a movie theater and saw the first sound picture ever made … Jazz Singer. HE promptly called his production team up and informed them that they would be remaking the same movie they just spent three years and millions of dollars making. Everyone thought he was insane.

We got our hands on Canon's brand-new full-HD shooting 5D Mk II monster tonight, and well, yeah, we want it just as much as we did last night—even though Canon wouldn't let us pop our own CF cards in for some test shots and vids. We're not mad though—we ran through live view, video mode autofocus and everything else you can do with an SLR with no CF (ie: grope, grope, grope).

On Friday, we introduced you to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1, a tiny interchangeable-lens camera that's not a DSLR, but rather built on the new Micro Four Thirds standard will most likely shoot HD video, even though the original US press releases were mum on the subject.

We’ve covered Casio’s EXILIM series before, and they have just recently announced their new HIGH SPEED EXILIM series, which includes the Pro EX-F1. That camera was released earlier this year, and it has to its credit as being the “world’s fastest digital camera”. The EX-F1 can shoot at 60fps and record high speed movies at 1,200 fps.

The key to the crazy looking Ikonoskop A-cam dII camera may be the 80GB card that comes with it. How else would you expect to shoot 60 RAW frames of 1080p video—totaling out at 240MB—each and every second? As our good friend and video wizard Charlie White points out, it doesn't have the specs to match the legendary 4K Red One, but it does cost a lot less, less than half at just south of $10,000.

Cars, especially older ones, don’t always have a convenient spot to put your cell phone and I’ve never been a fan of leaving it in my pocket while driving. Yes, you could slip it into your cupholder, but it’s not quite in the line of sight and that means your drink can’t go there. Which could be catastrophic for those in dire need of caffeine and are unwilling to hold it between their legs.

Combining a downsized body and advanced camera features that realize the operational comfort even as easy as that of compact cameras, the super-mobile G1 shatters the old notion that all digital SLRs are bulky.
