Then I discovered a much better use for the Imeem app: storage in the cloud. If you create an Imeem account on the Web site, you can upload up to 100 songs to Imeem for free. (A VIP Subscription service is available as well--$29.99 per year gives you 1,000 uploads, while $99.99 a year gives you 20,000.) My 8GB iPhone gives me enough space for some reasonably interesting playlists, but it's far from enough to store my entire music library, which runs at more than 20GB.

Since Japan was really affected due to the recession, companies are trying to make ways to save the country from sinking. That’s only a fragment of imagination but nonetheless, Sanyo Japan has announced a new high-end projector, the LP-WXU700 [JP], which is claimed to be the world’s first WiFi-enabled projector supporting the IEEE802.11n standard and thus the fastest. Sanyo says users can conveniently stream video from their PCs through the projector and it also supports the Windows Vista Network Projector standard.

JVC latest projectors—one at 8K (8,192x4,320pixels) and the other at 4K (3,840x2,160pixels)—come with 10,000 lumens of brightness and produce a 5500:1 contrast ratio. JVC has also created a prototype of their new 4K handheld camcorders, which shoot in 4240p and was made to be more of a broadcasting camera. Although release dates and prices are yet to be announced, they are rumored to cost under $200k, which is not that surprising considering that this cutting-edge technology is aimed more at professionals.

Disk storage is already one of the data center's biggest expenses, the cost of finished arrays keeps rising, and IDC predicts that companies' storage infrastructures will grow 300% by the end of the decade. Amid this backdrop, there's growing concern that businesses will drown in the expense of storing data. Enter cloud storage--network-accessible storage infrastructure that evangelists promise will prevent the apocalyptic scenario envisioned above by IDC in its "Exploding Data Universe" report (sponsored by EMC).

Texas Memory Systems has added a less expensive, faster and smaller form-factor flash storage array to its line of solid-state products. The RamSan-620, announced last week, fits up to 5TB of flash memory into a 2U chassis, half the physical size of Texas Memory's RamSan-500, which fits a maximum of 2TB. Texas Memory has also significantly increased the speed, with 250,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) for both read and write operations. That's significantly faster than the RamSan-500, which delivers 100,000 read IOPS and 25,000 write operations per second.
