Looking something like the love child of an OQO and an HTC Tilt, Sharp-Willcom's new D4 WS016SH UMPC is apparently the first of its type to have the new Atom Centrino fizzing away inside. That 1.3GHz Atom Z520 is matched with a five-inch LED back-lit 1024 x 600 touchscreen, 1GB of memory, a 40GB drive, 2 megapixel camera, wi-fi and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR. If that sounds like a lot in a tiny package then you'll like this: this Japan-only computer also runs Windows Vista Home Premium.

    Samsung SWT-W100K WiBro PMP

You can once again get that feeling of what the next few lines are going to convey to you. Yes! It's another PMP being reviewed by us. But trust me one this one, it is a little bit too much for a PMP. Firstly, the 4.3 inch screen is so covetable, one would really need the very sight of it to sink in before reaching out to use the WVGA touch screen. There's also a cool 8 GB of internal flash memory stuffed into this one. Other features include a sexy 2 megapixel shooter, Bluetooth and DMB home television. This is a stunning PMP in the Market and is sure to act as a catalyst for a few more goodies to come from competitors.

Microsoft is claiming to be able to push out a consumer version of its coffee table-cum-PC, Surface, within the next three years, lopping a couple of years off their original forecast of 2013. VP of Specialised Devices and Applicatiobs at MS, Tom Gibbons, told Fortune magazine:

"In the three-year time window, we absolutely see how to get there. If we can beat that, we'll try to beat that."

However, Gibbons admitted the company struggled to stick to their promise of having the $10,000 units shipped to business clients by the end of last year.

Advantech delivers new rugged Tablet PC
Posted on Mar 21 2008 4:08 AM by adnana
    Filed Under: Tablet PCs ,

Advantech isn’t exactly known for consumer related computers. While we don’t think this new Tablet PC fits the bill either, the recently released Mars-3100S seems to still be pretty cool none the less.

The Advantech Mars-3100S sports a 10.4-inch touchscreen display and is ready to go with Windows XP. It is targeted towards more rugged uses in environments like field and emergency services. It also offers optional built-in WLAN and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity.

Other features of the Mars-3100S include a fanless design, an optional 2.5-inch shockmounted hard drive, USB 2.0 and an AMD LX800 processor. No word on where it can be picked up.

Here come Princeton's latest "tools", a couple "Pen Tablets":

Number one is called PTB-W1, what we have here is a wireless graphic tab featuring 16 programmable buttons, PC and MAC compatible, the release date is set for April in Japan and the price should be just below 20.000JPY (127€).

    Some of the specifications:
    -278x282x20mm and 595g
-wireless up to 30m away from the receiver
    -1024 levels of pressure
    -USB rechargeable battery
    -autonomy of 16 hours
-the pen uses an AAA battery said to last 1 year

Second on the list is the PTB-DIP1, kind of a "notepad tablet" as you do write on a normal sheet of paper placed over the device, everything that you write is then stored in the 32Mb memory which can contain up to a hundred A4 type sheets. An SD card port makes for additional space and can be used to record voice as well.

The Panasonic ToughBook is expected to feature a 5.6-inch touch screen LCD and weigh less than 1kg. With its rear and side surfaces covered with resin as the TouchBook series predecessors. Adesso Looking To Muscle In On Wacom’s Cintiq Turf
Posted on Feb 18 2008 5:02 PM by adnana
    Filed Under: Tablet PCs ,

A tablet is the only way to go if you’re a digital artist who does any kind of drawing or painting on your PC. (Even if you’re nothing more than a disembodied floating hand like in that product shot.) While Wacom is still the leader in this market it looks like Adesso, another tablet manufacturer, is going after the high-end Cintiq market. The CyberTablet M17 has a 17 inch LCD display and uses an electromagnetic stylus for input. It can detect up to 1024 different levels of input pressure and has an accuracy of +/- 0.5mm. With the bundled software you can pretty much do anything from drawing to photo touch-ups to capturing hand-written notes.

Their polysilicon film display uses integrated optical sensors (a la this Sharp, we believe) to support up to five points of contact on the device, or just enough for every finger on one hand...
