Jun 29, 2009 (Hindustan Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Things have come a long way from the days of the floppy diskette. We all know storage is getting cheaper and bigger, but do you know they have got smarter as well? By now, the USB (universal serial bus) stick is the commonly accepted external memory, but there is much more to what it can do apart from storing a few files.

We can thank the iPhone for the fact that everything seems to be going touchscreen today. The iPhone was one of the first successful touch capable devices to hit the market. Now after a few years of the iPhone being on the market we have touch capability in everything from digital frames to digital cameras. GE has announced a new digital camera called the E1250TW that will be available on HSN and at Amazon starting on June 22. The camera has a 3-inch touch capable LCD and a 12.2-megapixel sensor.

The recently released Nokia N97 has been drowned, put on a diet and was unlucky enough to share its launch with the Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS. We still thought it was "quite good," and now it's getting new firmware. However, that said there is as of yet no nanotechnology update process available to us that will physically fix that keyboard. You know, the one with the space bar placed precariously toward the far right extreme of the typing area?

We have to hand it to that Twitter thing. From further boosting the egos of outspoken tech industry personalities to supporting Iranian revolutions, the service has demonstrated its strengths. Today, the service can let relatives know you are still alive. Developed by Japanese geek forum Koress Project, the Akiduki Pulse box does this by autonomously posting your heartbeat to Twitter. Once there, friends, family and enemies can all watch as your natural rhythms play out on the world stage in real time.

It seems that Entertainment Earth is coming out with a few different USB drives, one of which will appeal to the Twilight fans. It’s a little on the bulky side of things, but features the Cullen family crest. Then just in case you’re worried that people won’t realize how much of a Twilight fan you are, it has Twilight stamped on the bottom. Taking away any doubt anyone might have that you can’t get enough of anything and everything Twilight.

At first glance it looks like a coffee machine from the USS Enterprise. But the Edelweiss PC is a computer which combines function and art. I picked up my jaw after noticing the latest addition to MillionDollarPC.Com. This is the “Edelweiss” PC by Pius Giger. Everything in Edelweiss is meticulously detailed. The wires, cables and watercool tubing are routed inside of the main body for a clean look. The Edelweiss PC looks beautiful from every angle.

USB drives may have ever expanding capacities but they also have ever shrinking physical sizes... Taking the prize of new mini monster from the SuperTalent Pico is the new Buffalo 'RUF2' flash drive which measures just 5mm long and yet packs in a whopping 16GB of flash storage. Buffalo has yet to reveal the performance specifications of its mini marvel but given it barely extends any larger than the USB slot itself we're prepared to cut it some slack. In fact it would be hard to make the RUF2 any smaller without it becoming nearly impossible to extract from a USB slot after insertion.

Yesterday I held the new HTC Hero next to my iPhone. Not only the new Android handset has a surprisingly cool design—straight out of JJ Abrams' Star Trek or Kubrick's 2001—but it kicks the iPhone's material ass. Simply put, the Teflon-coated back just feels and looks a lot better than the iPhone's—now crappy looking, I admit—plastic back. The Hero's polytetrafluoroethylene—the technical name for DuPont's Teflon—coating feels perfect in your hand. It doesn't appear to get any skin oil at all.

Projectors are getting pretty popular these days amongst businesses and consumers, and we are still not to the point where all of us can have a projector on our cellular phone for our video footage. I suppose this is why the iJector was invented. All the user needs to do is stick their iPhone or iPod on the dock, and you can project them at a great brightness at up to 50 inch diagonal. The resolution has a low resolution at about 557 x 234. It weighs in at about 120 grams and has dimensions of 195×145x96mm.
